DOLPHIN TOUR OPERATORS

The dolphin bour operators in Kizimkazi on the southern coast of Zanzibar make a few dollars for every visiting group they take out on a boat while the tour companies in Stone Town charge $80-$100 per head to book the experience. The bour operators see very little of that money and the value added by the tour companies includes a sign up location and transportation to the boat site only.

I plan to work with the grad students at IMS to see if we can organize the bour operators and create a professional certification with supporting agencies. This means each bour operator would need to be properly trained in dolphin tourism, boat safety and business management. We also want to negotiate better financial terms with the tour companies and help the bour operators with online and traditional marketing.
